4 WOUNDED IN KNIFE FIGHT

Four people were cut early Thursday at a downtown nightspot after a man pulled out a knife during a fight.

Blacksburg police said they were notified of a fight at the Hawaii Kai Lounge on North Main Street at about 12:30 a.m. They learned that an unknown man had pulled a butterfly knife - often carried by martial arts aficionados - and several people had tried to disarm him. The knife was taken away from him.

Jessica L. Horton, 18, a Radford University student, received a minor cut to her lower throat area. Edward M. Bowers, 20, a Virginia Tech student, received minor cuts to his forearms. Michael J. Delrossi, 19, also a Tech student, was slashed on his left knee and was taken to Montgomery Regional Hospital for stitches. Jerome D. Trussell, 22, of Blacksburg, also was treated at the hospital for a laceration to his left buttock that required stitches.

The man left the lounge before police arrived. He is described as about 19 years old, 5-foot-10, 130 to 140 pounds with brown hair and a medium complexion. Police said he likely has a bruise on the left side of his face around the eye area. The man was wearing blue jeans, a white T-shirt and a blue baseball cap. Police are asking that anyone with information on the incident or the man call 961-1150.
