The reason has to do with concerns by Jackson's promoters over his concert set for the following night in Charleston, W.Va., said Carey Harveycutter, manager of the Salem Civic Center.
In Charleston, Jackson's May 7 date fell within two weeks of two other country shows, one with Dwight Yoakam and another with Travis Tritt. Jackson's promoters worried that those concerts would hurt their ticket sales. They also were concerned because Jackson had a weak opening act planned for the shows, Harveycutter said. Who his opening act would have been never was announced.
Harveycutter said the promoters wanted strong ticket sales on both nights. They are looking now to other markets where Jackson wouldn't be appearing within such close proximity to other big-name concert draws. Harveycutter said he hoped to reschedule the Jackson concert sometime later this year.
