TRUCKING TALKS FAIL; STRIKE DATE SET

The Teamsters Union rejected a final offer from the trucking industry Thursday and promised to strike Wednesday unless agreement is reached on a nationwide contract.

No additional negotiating sessions were scheduled, but both sides agreed to extent the current contract until midnight Tuesday. It had been scheduled to expire at 12:01 a.m. today.
