3 DEMON DEACONS LEAVING SCHOOL

Three Wake Forest basketball players have decided to leave the school at the end of the spring semester, coach Dave Odom said Friday.

Two sophomores - 6-foot-1 guard Stacey Castle and 6-8 forward Bobby Fitzgibbons - and 6-11 redshirt freshman Marc Schoone will transfer to other schools during the summer, Odom said.

"The situation for each player is different, and we respect each one's feeling and decision to leave," Odom said.

Castle played in 21 games as a backup point guard, averaging 2.4 points a game until he tore ligaments in his right thumb in February. Fitzgibbons was sidelined during the season's final month with a broken left hand after averaging 2.3 points in 12 games. Schoone averaged 1.3 points in 11 games after being redshirted. - Associated Press
