GREEN WINS SUNDROP POLE

David Green won his third pole of the NASCAR Busch Grand National season Saturday, leading qualifying for today's Sundrop 300 at Hickory Motor Speedway.

Green, driving a Chevrolet, covered the .363-mile track at an average speed of 89.262 mph, fastest of the 45 cars that tried to earn 30 available starting positions for the 300-lap race.

Green also has won pole positions at Richmond, Va., and Martinsville, Va., the other two short-track events that have been held this season in the GN series. He finished second in the Martinsville event, his best finish in six races.

"We've done pretty well in qualifying," said Green, of Owensboro, Ky.

Ricky Craven was second at 89.062 mph in a Chevrolet, with Johnny Rumley third at 88.958, also in a Chevrolet.
