STAPLES ON TV TODAY

Curtis Staples from Roanoke will join fellow University of Virginia basketball recruit Norman Nolan on the East team in the McDonald's All-America Game, to be televised by WDBJ (Channel 7) at 12:30 p.m. today from St. John's University in New York.

Staples, a 6-foot-2 guard, spent his senior year in Grayson County at Oak Hill Academy, ranked No. 1 in the country. Staples helped Patrick Henry High School win the Group AAA state championship in 1992.

Staples, Nolan and a third UVa signee, 7-3 Chase Metheney from Charlotte, N.C., will play in the Capital Classic at 8 p.m. Thursday at Cole Field House in College Park, Md.
