ROANOKE SPRINTER WINS IN LYNCHBURG MEET

Roanoke College's Renae Rose won the 400-meter dash in a school-record time of 1 minute, 2.44 seconds at the Lynchburg Track Classic. Rose also was second in the 200 meters.

Courtney Fitch led Roanoke's men, placing fourth in the high and long jumps. No team scores were kept in the 12-team meet.

Kelley Douglas of host Hollins was the high-point rider as Hollins won a four-team equestrian meet.

In Hot Springs, Jon Rodgers picked up his third save as Bath County defeated Shawsville 7-3 in a showdown of previously unbeaten high school baseball teams. Sophomore Matthew Altizer pitched 3 innings and was credited with the victory. He gave up one hit and no runs. Rodgers bailed him out of a bases-loaded jam in the fourth. Rodgers got out of his own bases-loaded jam in the fifth inning. Dave Buzzard led the Chargers (4-0) with three hits.
