BRISTOL WOMAN IS KILLED IN CRASH NEAR RADFORD

A Bristol woman traveling with her daughter and son-in-law was killed about 7 p.m. Sunday when their car struck an embankment and rolled four times on Interstate 81 near the Virginia 177 overpass, according to state police.

Sylvia T. Sorace, 76, was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck, said Trooper J.D. Diamond. Sorace, who was riding in the back seat of the car, was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown out the back window of the vehicle, Diamond said.

Sorace's daughter, who was driving, 43-year-old Linda Crites, and her husband James L. Crites, 51, both of Columbia, Md., were flown to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Diamond said. Their conditions were not available Sunday night, a nursing supervisor said.

The Criteses were wearing their seat belts, Diamond said. The car's airbag also inflated, he said.

The cause of the wreck had not been determined, and Diamond said charges will not be filed.
