ALLEGHANY FALLS TO NEW YORK TEAM

At Alleghany, Fairport of New York opened its high school baseball season with a 10-6 victory over Alleghany.

The score was 5-5 after six innings, but Fairport scored five runs in the top of the seventh and held on for the victory.

David Dixon hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning and Brian Shinault added a solo shot in the sixth for the Mountaineers (1-1). David Cummings was 3-for-4.

Alleghany's pitchers struggled, giving up 10 walks and 10 hits.

At Shawsville, Tony Maxey went 3-for-3 and Mark Akers was 2-for-3 with two RBI as the Shawnees pounded Rocky Gap 11-2.

Jason Smith (2-0) was the winning pitcher for Shawsville (4-1).

Quinton Slaughter was 3-for-3 and drove in both runs for Rocky Gap (0-1).
