RADFORD GOLFER WINS BIG SOUTH

Jennifer Kellogg of Radford shot a 76 to win medalist honors at the Big South Conference women's golf tournament at the par-72 Colonial Charters Golf and Country Club in Longs, S.C.

Jennifer Layman of Campbell was second at 77 and Janet Wooten of Campbell, Marti Murphy of Coastal Carolina and Becky Morgan of UNC Greensboro shared third at 78.

As a team, Radford shot a 331 to finish fifth in the six-team event. Campbell shot a team total of 316 for a two-shot victory. Coastal Carolina and UNC Greensboro tied for second at 318. scores in Scoreboard.)

Radford's Olivia Faison shared 11th at 80, Courtney Kendrick shared 22nd at 83, and Dot Kilcarr and Jessica Lord shared 29th at 92.

In other college sports:

At Longs, S.C., Radford finished seventh in the 10-team Big South men's golf tournament on the 6,500-yard, par-72 Colonial Charters course. Campbell and Coastal Carolina tied for first place with team totals of 593. Radford finished at 641.

Chris Winchip of Winthrop was the medalist with rounds of 70 and 71 for a 141 total and a one-shot victory over Wil Weldon of Coastal Carolina, who had rounds of 68 and 74. Campbell's Greg Hardwick was third at 74-71-145.

Brian Lipps was Radford's top finisher, tying for 18th at 155 after rounds of 80 and 75. Radford's other players were Austin Harper (83-73-156), Chris Cantone (81-84-165), Chad Wright (84-83-167) and Ed Kurpiel (85-82-167).

At Greensboro, N.C., Lynchburg College's Jeff Preston shot 74 and earned the individual title at the Guilford/ODAC Invitational golf tournament.

Hampden-Sydney won the team competition with a 314 total. Guilford was second at 322, followed by Lynchburg (324) and Roanoke (358).

Chris Lawson's 85 was the low score for the Maroons, who struggled on the par-70 Cardinal Golf Course. Darrell Craft shot 86, Al Vizgaitis 92 and Greg Barrett 95 to round out Roanoke's scoring.

Ryan Hutchinson hit two home runs to drive in four runs as Liberty defeated VMI 13-7 in baseball in Lexington.

Hutchinson led off the game with his first home run and drove his second over the fence with two on in the fourth inning. Hutchinson also had a double and a single to go 4-for-5 at the plate.

The Keydets (13-16) rallied in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring four runs, but still trailed 6-4. Marlin Ikenberry hit a three-run homer in the inning.

Liberty (11-14) responded in the top of the sixth by scoring five runs, including the game's fourth homer by Terry Weaver, and put the contest out of reach.

Joel Fenske picked up his first win of the season, while VMI's Jay Adams (2-2) took the loss.
