T-BILL RATES AT 2-YEAR HIGH

The Treasury Department on Monday sold $12.7 billion in three-month bills at an average discount rate of 3.71 percent, up from 3.5 percent last week. Another $12.6 billion was sold in six-month bills at an average discount rate of 4.02 percent, up from 3.85 percent last week.

The three-month bill rate was the highest since the bills sold for 3.75 percent on June 1, 1992. The rate for six-month bills was the highest since it averaged 4.19 percent on March 30, 1992.

The Federal Reserve said the average yield for one-year Treasury bills, the most popular index for making changes in adjustable rate mortgages, rose to 4.46 percent last week from 4.36 percent the previous week.
