BLACKSBURG WOMAN STILL HOSPITALIZED AFTER CRASH

A 31-year-old Blacksburg woman remained in very serious condition Tuesday from injuries she suffered in a head-on collision in Roanoke County that killed the other driver early Sunday morning.

Cinda M. McCoy of Blacksburg was in the neuro-intensive care unit of Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

The driver of the other car, Edward C. Whitt, 27, also of Blacksburg, died at the accident scene, at Blacksburg and Sandy Ridge roads, according to police.

McCoy works in the nursing service at Catawba Hospital. Hospital officials think she was on her way to work at the time of the accident, according to Dr. Raymond Marsh, hospital director.

Whitt was a manager for Hecht's department store in Roanoke, according to his obituary notice. A funeral service for Whitt was to be held today at 2 p.m. in Fair Funeral Home chapel in Eden, N.C.

The 5:35 a.m. accident still was under investigation Tuesday. Roanoke County police said that Whitt's car was found on the wrong side of the road, in McCoy's lane. Police said they do not think alcohol was involved in the accident.

Officer L.P. Vance of the Roanoke County Police Department said Whitt and McCoy were wearing seat belts. No charges are pending in relation to the wreck, Vance said.
