CLEMSON STAR HOSPITALIZED GRAY MAY HAVE HAD HEART ATTACK

Clemson basketball player Devin Gray was in serious condition Tuesday after an apparent heart attack.

Gray, a starting forward, was in the coronary care unit at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

"All indications are that he suffered a heart attack," Dr. Stuart Clarkson, the team physician, said.

"Tests will be run to determine the extent and the cause of the damage, but it will be the end of the week before we can make a statement concerning his chances of continuing his basketball career. He had no history of cardiac problems," Clarkson said.

Gray suffered chest pains Monday evening, about 50 minutes after Gray a conditioning session at Littlejohn Coliseum, the school said. Earlier in the day he had lifted weights and played several pickup basketball games.

The junior led the Atlantic Coast Conference in field goal percentage this year at 57.2 percent. He averaged 14.4 points and six rebounds per game, second best on the team, and helped lead the Tigers to the NIT.
