APPALACHIAN WRITER TO READ STORIES

Jo Carson, a storyteller often featured on National Public Radio's "All Things Considered," will read some of her humorous short stories at 8 p.m. today at Virginia Intermont College.

Carson lives in Johnson City, Tenn., and writes about the people, customs and environment of Appalachia. The reading in the Fine Arts Building, sponsored by the college English department's Speakers Program, is open to the public at no charge.

Carson's books include "Stories I Ain't Told Nobody Yet" and "The Last of `The Waltz Across Texas' and Other Stories." Her stories have made her a popular commentator on NPR and her play, "Daytrips," won the Kesseiring Award for 1989.
