COALITION PUSHES LIMITS ON ABORTION

Pat Robertson's Christian Coalition is trying to persuade the General Assembly to adopt abortion restrictions favored by Gov. George Allen, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported in its early editions today.

In a letter last week, Executive Director Ralph Reed Jr. urged the coalition's 39,000 Virginia members to counter a drive by abortion-rights advocates to block toughened abortion controls when the assembly reconvenes April 20.

"This is the initial contact," said Christian Coalition spokesman Mike Russell. He said the coalition would intensify its efforts during the next two weeks.
