IN SCHOOL

EMORY & HENRY COLLEGE has announced the names of Roanoke Valley students who have been named to the 1994 edition of "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges."

They are: Chuck Anderson and Penny Stevens, both of Vinton; Jennifer Sparger of Salem; Karen Sigmon of Troutville; Melissa Bassett of Roanoke; and Terri N. Smith, formerly of Roanoke.

\ AMANDA BELANGER of Roanoke has been named to the dean's list for the fall quarter at Virginia Intermont College in Bristol.

\ NORTHSIDE HIGH SCHOOL has announced the names of marching band students selected to participate in the All-District band. Those chosen for the symphonic band are: Kerry Wood, baritone; Cathy Higgins, flute; Steve Consigllo, snare drum; Chris Deel, snare drum; Rusten Bailey, tenor saxophone; Ron Vance, baritone saxophone; Amy Bolin, bass clarinet; Brian Burks, trombone; Angie Benson, trombone; Mike Dowe, tuba; Jimmy Murdock, trumpet; and Nikki Colley, clarinet.

Those picked for the concert band are: Amanda Pagans, piccolo; Christy Reedy, flute; Tim Saunders, trombone; Ben Cannada, alto saxophone; Christina Sluder, oboe; Billy Wade, trumpet; and Jack Gary, trumpet.

\ ELIZABETH "SCOTTIE" BOARDWINE, daughter of Mrs. Warren A. Boardwine of Salem, was elected president for Roanoke College's Student Government Association.

Boardwine, a Salem High School graduate, is a junior studying sociology.

\ WILLIAM FLEMING HIGH SCHOOL students who were honored at the All District Chorus competition include: seniors Archie Collins and Lindee Whitworth, who were selected as representatives to state choir; and senior Amy Moffit who was chosen as the first state alternate.

Twelve students in the Fleming magnet vocal program participated in the competition.

\ SALLYE T. COLEMAN and SHIRLEY EMILY HENN, both of Roanoke, have been selected to appear in the fourth edition of "Who's Who in American Education."

Coleman, who received a Woman Achiever Award in 1986, taught in Roanoke public schools from 1941 to 1970 and was a member of the Roanoke School Board from 1984 to 1992. Henn was a librarian at Hollins College from 1943 to 1984.
