NAVY SEAMAN RECRUIT ANTHONY K. DEYERLE, grandson of Hugh F. and Ruby L. Dalton of 1854 Burma Road, Salem, recently completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

\ MARINE CPL. MICHAEL P. BRYANT, son of Dianne M. Bryant of 3960 Carterdell Road, Salem, has reported for duty at Marine Air Corps Station in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii.

\ COAST GUARD LT. j.g. DONALD R. DYER, son of Donald R. Dyer Sr. of Longacre Drive and Karen L. Melton of Caldwell Street, recently received the Air Medal for meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flight with Coast Guard Group Astoria in Warrenton, Ore.

\ PETTY OFFICER FIRST CLASS MARILYN H. SINOHUI, daughter of Calvin E. Huffman of 7611 Wineberry Trail and Margaret E. Roden of 4459 Keefer Road, has re-enlisted for six years in the Navy and reported to Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Fla.

Sinohui is a 1992 graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Fla.

\ LANCE CPL. JOHN P. MOORE, son of Mary E. Moore of New Castle, recently received a meritorious mast while serving at Marine Corps Air Station New River, Jacksonville, N.C.

A meritorious mast is an official recognition from a Marine's commanding officer for superior individual performance.

\ PVT. CHARLES G. SHARP, son of Gregory H. and Nancy M. Sharp of Catawba, recently completed recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.

\ NAVY SEAMAN CHRISTOPHER L. ZAYAS, son of Angel R. and Karen H. Zayas of 4929 Woodmas Drive, recently completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

\ PETTY OFFICER FIRST CLASS THOMAS E. BUSH recently departed for a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea aboard the guided missile cruiser USS Vicksburg, based in Mayport, Fla.

\ STAFF SGT. JOHN R. PRICE of New Castle recently was promoted to his present rank while serving with the 4th Marine Division in Roanoke.

\ NAVY HOSPITALMAN RECRUIT SCOTT E. KINNEY, son of Robert D. and Gloria J. Kinney of 419 Boulevard, Salem, recently graduated from Field Medical Service School, Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

\ NAVY PETTY OFFICER 1ST CLASS TIMOTHY M. GRISSO, son of Mr. and Mrs. Emmett I. Grisso of 5475 Glenmary Drive, Salem, recently returned from a six-month Mediterranean Sea deployment aboard the USS Thorn, based in Charleston, S.C., as part of the USS America joint task group.

Grisso graduated from Salem High School in 1981.

\ MARINE STAFF SGT. DENNIS L. HARDY of 1906 Captain Drive, Salem, was recently promoted to his present rank while serving with the 4th Marine Division in Lynchburg.

\ AIRMAN CHARLES S. STONE, son of Hershual D. and Mary W. Stone of New Castle, has graduated from Air Force basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

Stone is a 1993 graduate of Craig County High School.

\ PETTY OFFICER 1ST CLASS WALTER T. POWELL, son of Walter T. Powell Jr. of 7913 Olsen Road, received a letter of commendation for superior performance while assigned at Naval Air Station Miramar in San Diego, Calif.

\ NAVY SEAMAN RECRUIT JASON M. PAXTON, son of William T. and Rebecca B. Paxton of 2005 Mountain Ave., Salem, recently completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

\ ENSIGN MARK C. SWITZER, son of James W. and Doris C. Switzer of 722 Glenmore Drive, Salem, recently returned from a six-month Mediterranean and Red Sea and Indian Ocean deployment aboard the USS Simpson, based in Newport R.I.

Switzer is a 1987 graduate of Salem High School and a 1992 graduate of Virginia Tech.
