4 PLEAD GUILTY IN FAKED MCDONALD'S HOLDUP

Four people accused of participating in a faked hold-up of the Blacksburg McDonalds have pleaded guilty in Montgomery County Circuit Court.

A fifth person, a teen-age girl, was sentenced in juvenile court but has appealed to Circuit Court.

The incident was reported Oct. 17, when an employee of the fast-food restaurant told police that he was robbed by a gunman who fled with an undisclosed amount of money.

But after an investigation, Blacksburg police charged four employees and another man with grand larceny. Police accused the employees of staging the robbery to cover a theft of money from the safe.

The four are accused of taking a briefcase, two bags of gift certificates, two bank deposit bags and money from the Turner Street McDonalds last October.

Allen Wayne Odum, 22, of Christiansburg; Lewis Harlow Freeman, 21, of Blacksburg; and Monique Renea Collins, 21, of Blacksburg all have pleaded guilty to grand larceny. They each received a three-year suspended prison sentence and were placed on probation for three years.

The 16-year-old employee was given an indefinite sentence in the state corrections system for juveniles, the Department of Youth and Family Services. She has appealed the conviction. The matter will likely be heard in Circuit Court in July.

Timmie Ray Shaw, 18, of Radford, pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of receiving stolen property. He received a two-year sentence, which was suspended after he served 30 days in jail. He will be on probation for two years.

All are responsible for making restitution to the restaurant for the thefts - more than $3,000.
