Red Cross plans SWIM-A-CROSS

CHRISTIANSBURG - The Montgomery County Chapter of the American Red Cross is holding a SWIM-A-CROSS to raise money for educational equipment and disaster relief funds on Sunday at the Blacksburg Aquatic Center from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Participants will ask people to sponsor them by donating money based on the number of laps or a flat amount the sponsor wishes to donate.

RU, St. Albans host violence lectures

RADFORD - Radford University and Saint Albans Psychiatric Hospital are sponsoring a lecture series on violence, which is funded by a grant from the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities and Public Policy.

The first lecture, "The Aftermath of Violence: Private and Public Terrors," will be held today, 8-9:30 p.m., in the Heth Ballroom.

On Friday , the program, "Who Will Listen: Global Social Responsibility," will run from 10 a.m. to noon in the Starlight Room at Saint Albans Hospital.

Lions Club looks for old eyeglasses

BLACKSBURG - The Blacksburg Host Lions Club will be conducting its semi-annual White Cane solicitation on Friday and Saturday. Lions Club members will accept old eyeglasses for reprocessing. Proceeds go the the Old Dominion Eye Bank and other Lions sight and hearing projects.

The Virginia Tech fraternity Zeta Psi will be assisting the Lions Club.
