CALVERT, Marty Bane, 29, of Troutville, passed away suddenly Wednesday, April 6, 1994. Surviving are his parents, Gerald L. and Nancy Z. Calvert; one brother and sister-in-law, Gerald L. Calvert Jr. and Tara D. Calvert of Blue Ridge; paternal grandmother, Mrs. A.L. Calvert Jr. of Botetourt County.; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Frances Zell of Botetourt County; also numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. CARROLL, Raymond Fredrick, 84, of Blacksburg, died Thursday, April 7, 1994, at his home. Surviving are a beloved friend, Molly W. McGuyer, Riner; seven children, Ralph Carroll, Brenda Frazier both of Blacksburg, Sue McKittrick, Christiansburg, Teresa Hawkins, South Carolina, Carlos Carroll, Florida, Roger Carroll, New York and Phyllis Goode, Connecticut; a stepdaughter, Francis Hill, Rich Creek; one sister, Ruth Fuller; Arkansas; one brother, Roy Carroll, North Carolina; 29 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. CLARK, Myrtle Bennington, 79, of Lexington, died Wednesday, April 6, 1994 in the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville. Mrs. Clark was born in Rockbridge County, Va. on July 8, 1914, a daughter of the late William Alexander Bennington and Minnie Hartless Bennington. She was the widow of Gordon Albert Clark, and was a member of the Lauderdale A. R. P. Church in Lexington. Surviving are a son, Roy A. Bennington, Newport News; two daughters, Joyce A. Bennington, Lexington, Jean C. Rea, Buena Vista; four sisters, Goldie Hartless, Richmond, Mary Bennington, Lexington, Martha Smith, Lexington, Margaret Jordan, Waynesboro; one brother, Marshall Bennington, Manchester, Ky.; and four grandchildren, Robin Bennington, Alex Bennington, both of Newport News, Janet Rea, Lexington, Jessica Rea, Buena Vista. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, April 9, 1994 at 2 p.m. in the Harrison Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. James T. Johnson officiating. CLEVENGER, Norma Jane, 65, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, April 7, 1994 in a local hospital. Mrs. Clevenger assisted in founding the Samaritan Inn in 1977, was an active member of the board and gave volunteer services. She is survived by her husband, Rev. Jerry Clevenger; a son, Craig Clevenger; daughter and son-in-law, Jerilynn and Gary John; grandson, Mason John; sister, Jane Brooks. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 9, 1994 at Oakey's North Chapel, with the Rev. Walter Wood officiating. CROCKETT, Lenna Moomaw Painter, 99, of Durham, N.C., died Thursday, April 7, 1994, in Wythe County Community Hospital, Wytheville. Born January 19, 1895, in Botetourt County, she was a daughter of Benton D. and Sallie Moomaw Painter. She was preceded in death by her husband, A.G. Crockett, a granddaughter, Angela Denise Crockett, one sister and five brothers. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Alex T. and Rebecca L. Crockett, Durham, N.C., and Charles Graham and Betty H. Crockett, Wytheville; six grandchildren, Lucy G. Crockett, Takoma Park, Md., Alexander G. Crockett, Woodstock, Ga., Bruce L. Crockett, Greensboro, N.C., Valerie C. Knowles, Arlington, Texas, Michele C. Thompson, Lewisville, Texas, and Renee L. Crockett, Grand Prairie, Texas; four great-grandchildren, Michael D. Bell and Matthew D. Bell, Arlington, Texas, Katherine Julia Crockett and John Alexander Crockett, Woodstock, Ga. Mrs. Crockett received a teaching certificate from Farmville State Normal School (now Longwood College) and her Bachelor of Arts from Radford College. She was an elementary school teacher for many years in Wythe County and was a member of Chi Chapter Delta Kappa Gamma Society International for women in education. Since her retirement in 1964, she had lived in Durham, N.C., where she was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Kings Daughters and Sons. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in the Wytheville Presbyterian Church conducted by the Rev. Michael G. Wingard and the Rev. Thomas Sproule. Burial will be in West End Cemetery. CRUMP, John Russell, 67, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 1994. He was retired from General Electric and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his Mother, Loraine Crump; and brother, William Crump. Survivors include his wife, Gloria A. Crump; stepson, Michael S. Andrews, Lewisburg, W. Va.; father, Russell Crump, Roanoke; four brothers and wives, Walter and Toni Crump, David Crump, all of Roanoke. Jerry Crump, Cali., Charles and Kitty Crump, W. EDDY, Carroll Baylor, 58, of Centreville, died Tuesday, April 5, 1994, at his home. He was the son of the late Mary Mosher and Frank Dewey Eddy, formerly of Roanoke. He is survived by a brother, Frank Warren Eddy, Boulder, Colo.; an aunt, Nancy Mosher Copley, Alexandria; and many cousins in Roanoke. FOLTZ, Lossie Dalton, 87, of Blacksburg, formerly of Roanoke, died Wednesday, April 6, 1994, in Montgomery Regional Hospital. She has been a resident of Heritage Hall Nursing Home, Blacksburg for past several years. She was a retired elementary school teacher, having taught many years with the City of Roanoke School Systems. She was the widow of the late Dr. Curtis R. Foltz of Roanoke and the daughter of the late Dr. Martin L. and Loula Lester Dalton of Floyd. Surviving are one brother and sister-in-law, Martin Lester and Ruth Dalton of Blacksburg; also several nieces and nephews. FOUTZ, Frank Stanford, 65, of Blacksburg died Wednesday, April 6, 1994. He was a physical plant director working from 1965-1985 at Lynchburg College, 1985-1987 at Mt. Lake Hotel, 1987-1993 at Emory & Henry College. He was a member of the American Association of Physical Plant Directors. In the inner circle of his profession, Mr. Foutz was known for his unique and innovative techniques. He was an avid outdoorsman, at home both in the woods or on the stream bank. He was viewed as a me ntor to trout fisherman. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Abram Powell and Mabel Cook Foutz; brothers, Herbert Foutz, and Mark Foutz. He is survived by his wife Izona Doyle Foutz; two sons and daughter-in-law, Lance Foutz, Moneta, Va., Len and Trish Foutz, Warm Springs, Va.; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Laurence D. Stephens, Jr., Dallas, Texas; two brothers, Rodney Foutz and Don Foutz, both of Roanoke, Va.; three sisters, Pauline Clifton, Claudine Hill, and Lucille Craft, all of Roanoke, Va.; nine grandchildren. GUTHRIE, Alie G., 92, of 924 Ainsley, Martinsville, died Wednesday, April 6, 1994, at her home. She was formerly of Rt. 3, Rocky Mount. She was the wife of the late Charlie (Jake) Guthrie, born in Franklin County, September 10, 1901, and daughter of the late Monroe and Artie Guthrie. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Hubert (Thelma) Martin of Martinsville, Mrs. Melvin (Mae) Parcell, Martinsville, Mrs. R. J. (Frances) Wilson, Bassett; one son, Charlie Thomas Guthrie, Rocky Mount; 28 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sons, Carl Guthrie, Ernest Guthrie and Buddy Guthrie. Member of Beulah Baptist Church, Sontag. JONES, James William Sr., 84, of Route 4, Moneta, died Wednesday, April 6, 1994, in a Salem Nursing Home. He was born in Alleghany County on January 24, 1910, a son of Henry and Delcie Jones. He was a retired employee of Westvaco in Covington. He is survived by three sons, James William Jones Jr., Nashville, Tenn., Samuel B. Jones and D. Mack Jones, both of Moneta; a daughter and son-in-law, Fay J. and Larry N. Calvert, Huddleston. POWERS, Elster Clayton, 74, 402 Farmers Lane, died Wednesday, April 6, 1994, at Hillside Manor Nursing Home, Kingsport, Tenn., after a long illness. He was born in Darwin, Va. (Dickenson County). He was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church of Roanoke. He was retired from the Baptist Children's Home in Salem, and the Clinchfield Coal Corporation of Lebanon. Mr. Powers served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Diana Jane Powers; his parents, Henry Webster and Vertie S tanley Powers; one sister, Maxie Booth; three brothers, C. L. Powers, Olen Powers, Raymond Powers. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Opal Addington Powers, of the home; four sisters, Mrs. Laura Mullins, Vinton, Mrs. Willie Mae Turner, Clinchco, Mrs. Elsie Johnson, Salem, and Mrs. Patricia Rose, Maryland; three brothers, Arel Powers, Castlewood, Calvin Powers, Stewartsville, and Carl Powers, Vinton; several nieces and nephews. PROFFIT, Naomi M. Patterson, 80, of Newark, Dela., and formerly of Roanoke, Va., died Wednesday, April 6, 1994. She was preceded in death by her husband, William G. Proffit. SPENCER, Carolyn Alice Davis, 84, of Blacksburg, formerly of Chester and Brodnax, Va., died Wednesday, April 6, 1994 at Montgomery Regional Hospital. Mrs. Spencer was born at Bracey, Va. on July 29, 1909, a daughter of the late Virginius Garland Davis and Viola Boyd Davis. She was a past Worth Matron of the Eastern Star at Chester, Va. Mrs. Spencer was preceded in death by her first husband, William Edward Dugger, and her second husband, Wirt L. Spencer. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, William E. Jr. and Carrie B. Dugger, Blacksburg; one stepdaughter, Marion S. Simpson, Chester, Va.; one sister, Viola D. Hines, Bracey; three grandchildren and spouses, William E. III and Carolyn Z. She was a resident of Floyd County all her life and attended Floyd County High School. She was employed by Bassett Table Company and had also worked at Bassett Chair Company for several years. She was preceded in death by her father, Clevie Elmer Ousley. WENDLING, Dean Odell, 60, of Eagle Rock, died Wednesday, April 6, 1994. Mr. Wendling was retired from from the Xerox Corporation. He is survived by his wife, Ann B. Wendling, Eagle Rock; children, Kim Wendling, Roanoke, Perry and Bonnie Wendling of North Carolina, Gary and Gloria Wendling Kuykendall, Richmond, Charles and Susan Wendling, Eagle Rock, John and Darla Wendling, U. S. Navy; one brother, Charles Wendling of Arizona; grandchildren, Chris, Shaun, Michelle, Irene, Christine, Alison, Jamie. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday night from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Eagle Rock Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert S. Baldwin officiating. Burial in the Eagle Rock Cemetery.

WIKE, Emma Dorcus, 62, of Bassett, died Wednesday, April 6, 1994. Funeral 2 p.m. Saturday, Tomlinson Funeral Home Chapel, Ridgeway.

WILLMAN, Gerald Frederic, of Lynchburg, died Thursday, April 7, 1994, in Virginia Baptist Hospital. Born in Roanoke, he was the son of the late Fred Edward and Martha Schimmelman Willman. He was the husband of the late Annie Penn Willman. He is survived by one daughter, Suzanna Penn Willman of Virginia Beach; three sons, Gerald F. Willman Jr. of Sacramento, Calif., Thomas H. Willman and Ed Willman, both of Lynchburg; two granddaughters, Adrian Crawford Willman and Annie Penn Willman; one sister, Mrs. Glen F. (Ruth) Clingenpeel of Roanoke. A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Stephens Episcopal Church, Perrowville Road, by Dr. George Bean and the Rev. Louis Fischer, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home, 203 Colonial Court, Saturday only. The family suggests that memorials be made to the St. Stephens Building Fund or the YMCA. Diuguid Rivermont Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

WITT, Raymond M., 83, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, April 6, 1994. He was retired from Marstellar Corporation and was preceded in death by a daughter, Pauline Frances Parrish. Surviving are his wife, Martha Ellen Witt; one son, LeRoy Witt; daughter, Edith K. Hardison, all of Roanoke; one brother, Roy Witt of Salem; two sisters, Mary Alice Starkey and Maybell Epperly, both of Elliston; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren. Services will be at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Pastor Jeff Gardner will officiate. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
