CHEMICAL SPILLS

A small amount of a chemical, used in the making of dentures, was accidentally spilled in a laboratory Thursday at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Salem.

There were no injuries.

The chemical, methylmethacrylate, is a skin irritant that produces toxic fumes and can be flammable, according to Sue Patterson, a spokeswoman for the hospital. - DIANE STRUZZI
