GILES CHOIR TO SING FOR ORIOLES

The Giles High School Symphonic Chorale will be in Baltimore to sing the national anthem before Friday night's Baltimore Orioles baseball game in Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

The 41-member group will perform a few minutes before the game's first pitch, scheduled for 7:35 p.m.

In December, chorale director Larry Marion sent the Orioles public relations office a videotape of the chorale's rendition of the national anthem. He also informed the organization that the group would be in the Washington, D.C., area this weekend to participate in the "Festivals of Music" competition. The Orioles informed Marion last month that the group would be welcome to sing prior to the game between the Orioles and the Texas Rangers.

The group also received upper-deck reserved-seating tickets for the game.

During this weekend's competition in Fairfax, the chorale will perform the selections "Festival Praise" and Honor and Glory." A select group of chorale members will sing "Your Friend Shall Be the Tall Wind" and "Cum Sancto Spiritu" during the choral ensemble competition.

The group plans to visit several Washington attractions, including the Capitol, the White House and the Holocaust Museum. The group also will spend time in Baltimore's Inner Harbor area.

This will be the fourth time in 11 years that Marion has taken the Giles chorale to a baseball game to perform "The Star-Spangled Banner." Past Giles groups have performed at Baltimore's Memorial Stadium, Cleveland's Municipal Stadium and Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium in Atlanta.
