IN SERVICE

Air Force Capt. JAMES H. MCGUIRE has been decorated with the Air Force Aerial Achievement Medal for demonstrating acts of merit, exceptional performance or outstanding airmanship during sustained operational activities. McGuire is an instructor weapons director and son of James I. and Ruth I. McGuire of Dublin.

Air Force Reserve 2nd Lt. DAVID S. HENDERSON, son of David Henderson of Blacksburg, earned a bachelor's degree at the University of Miami (Florida) and was commissioned a second lieutenant through the Air Force ROTC program.

Navy Seaman HEATHER A. SHUCK, daughter of Sharon K. Shuck of Blacksburg, completed the Basic Aerographer's Mate School and was meritoriously promoted to her current rank. She was also selected as the honor graduate for having the highest academic and military performance in the class.

Marine Lance Cpl. JOHN M. MOREFIELD, son of Wanda M. Smith of Hiwassee, was recently selected as the distinguished graduate for the Basic Engineer Equipment Operator Course and was awarded a Meritorious Mast. The Meritorious Mast is an official recognition from a marine's commanding officer for superior individual performance.

Marine Lance Cpl. CHARLES J. MEADE, son of retired Marine Corps Capt. and Mrs. H.D. Morrow of Shawsville, recently completed qualifications and was designated a Crew Chief at Marine Helicopter Training Squadron 302, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Corps Air Station, Tustin, Calif.

Marine Pvt. PAUL K. HORN, son of Paul R. and Ingrid D. Horn of Floyd, completed the Basic Electrician's Course at Marine Corps Engineer School, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Air Force Airman CLIFTON S. PHILLIPS, son of Samuel D. Phillips of Draper and Nancy Y. Phillips of Pulaski, completed basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Tex .

Navy Seaman Recruit DONALD A. LAWSON, son of Charlie A. and Joyce M. Lawson of Barren Springs, completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Air Force Airman JOHN D. HARRELL, son of Bobby D. and Carol P. Harrell of Dublin, completed basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Tex.

Air Force Airman ERIC B. RYMER, son of Blaine and Sharleen A. Rymer of Pulaski, has graduated from Air Force basic training at Lackland Air Force, San Antonio, Tex.

Navy Seaman Recruit MARK C. HUTCHINS, son of David E. and Marilyn K. Hutchins of Blacksburg, completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Navy Lt. FREDRICK S. HALL returned from a six-month Mediterranean Sea and Indian Ocean deployment with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, N.C. He is graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and the son of Spencer and Kathy Hall of Radford.

Marine Pfc. CHARLES A. CALFEE, son of Carolyn S. Calfee of Dublin, recently returned from a six-month Mediterranean Sea and Indian Ocean deployment with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Navy Airman SCOTTIE W. PHILLIPS, son of William H. Phillips of Christiansburg, recently departed for a six-month Mediterranean deployment with Attack Squadron 35, Naval Air Station Oceana, Virginia Beach, Va.
