Scott heads lake chamber

MARY HUNT SCOTT of Union Hall has been named executive director of the Smith Mountain Lake Chamber of Commercer/Partnership. She will be responsible for administration of chamber programs and activities, including the visitor center at Bridgewater Plaza. She most recently was an administrative assistant at Bernard's Landing Resort and Conference Center at the lake.

After graduating in 1977 from Limestone College in Gaffney, S.C., Scott was a free-lance theatrical costumer for five years. She later went into advertising and was vice president of D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles; an account supervisor for J. Walter Thompson U.S.A.; and account coordinator for Foote Cone & Belding Inc. in New York.

\ BANKING

VONDA J. EANES and KATHERINE L. CHISOM have been named vice presidents at Crestar Bank. Eanes joined the bank in 1982 and has held positions including branch manager and commercial lending officer. She is a branch compliance and community reinvestment act manager for Crestar's western region. Chisom has been with the bank since 1993 as a credit analyst.

Also at Crestar, MARLENE D. EDLER, ELIZABETH A. FANNIN, and MARK E. WRIGHT have been promoted to assistant vice presidents. Edler is a business loan center adviser, Fannin is branch manager of the Crossroads office and Wright is a commercial account manager. ROBYN P. McNEESE has been promoted to personnel officer. She joined the bank in 1987 and is a personnel specialist.

\ EDUCATION

CYNTHIA GREGORY BABB of Floyd has been named director of development for Roanoke Catholic School. She most recently was assistant branch manager at the Jessie Peterman Memorial Branch Library in Floyd, where in addition to overseeing normal operation of the library, she wrote a newspaper column and co-produced a radio show.

\ FINANCIAL SERVICES

SANDI C. RICHARDSON has been named branch manager of Norwest Financial Inc.'s Roanoke office. She joined the company in 1991 as a credit manager in Winston-Salem, N.C., and was promoted to assistant manager of the High Point, N.C., office in 1993.

\ GOVERNMENT

OSCAR BRYANT, director of management information systems for Roanoke County, was appointed to the local government advisory committee of the Council on Information Management for the state of Virginia.

\ HEALTH CARE

GUDRUN FREEMAN, a licensed professional counselor with Center for Family Counseling in Roanoke, has been selected by the National Board of Certified Counselors to serve on a panel writing the National Clinical Mental Health Counseling exam.

\ SUSAN HIGHFILL has been named director of Good Samaritan Hospice Inc.'s new Grief and Loss Counseling Center. She is a licensed professional counselor and comes to the hospice after four years of private practice in Roanoke and Lynchburg.

\ HOSPITALITY

DORIS BROWN has been appointed director of human resources at the Roanoke Airport Marriott hotel. Brown previously was human resources manager with Heironimus department stores and is a member of the Society for Human Resources Managers.

\ INSURANCE

R. SCOTT FISHER of Roanoke has been hired by American National Insurance Co. as managing general agent for Southwestern Virginia. He formerly was employed at Jefferson-Pilot Insurance Co.

\ INTERIOR DESIGN

RICHARD L. BRYANT has been named president of International Design Group in Roanoke, which specializes in retirement facility, health care and corporate interior design. Bryant formerly worked for SFCS Architects.

\ MANUFACTURING

DALE H. POWELL has been named chairman and president of the board of directors of Mod-U-Kraf Homes Inc. in Rocky Mount; EDWIN J. CAMPBELL has been named vice president and corporate secretary; M. JAN OLIVER, treasurer; JEFFREY L. BOUDREAUX, controller; and YOLONDA K. MILLER, assistant corporate secretary. Other directors are: DR. FRANK H. DUDLEY, physician at Glade Hill Clinic; W. CURTIS CARTER, retired from Masonite Corp., Stuart; J. DILLARD POWELL, Rocky Mount Supply Co.; MARY L. FITTS, owner and operator of an apartment complex, Boones Mill; and BOBBIE L. OLIVER, real estate and rental property manager, Rocky Mount.

\ JOHN H. WHITBY of Roanoke has been named general manager, marketing and sourcing, at GE Supply, a division of General Electric Co. in Shelton, Conn. Whitby moved from the company's Drive Systems Division in Salem, where he has worked since 1988. In the newly formed senior management position, he will be responsible for integrating marketing and sourcing into one operation at GE. \ NONPROFITS

Opera Roanoke's board of trustees has elected three new members to fill vacancies: CHARLES SPECK, retired, Rice Management Co.; DR. RICHARD R. ECKERT, Orthopedic Surgery of Roanoke; and GEORGE A. STEADMAN III, Thomas Rutherfoord Inc.

\ ORGANIZATIONS

LEVON P. TURPIN of Roanoke has been elected Chapter Woman of the Year by the Longwood Chapter of the American Business Women's Association. Turpin is a billing clerk of Akzo Coatings Inc., where she has worked for 17 years.
