MARTINSVILLE INMATE HANGS HIMSELF

A Martinsville man, sent to Henry County Jail on drunken driving charges Friday night, hanged himself with a leather belt Saturday morning.

Brian D. Young, 25, was found in his cell during a routine check at 2:44 a.m. Saturday, according to the Henry County Sheriff's Office.

Young was arrested in Villa Heights late Friday and charged with DUI, reckless driving and attempting to elude police. Young was brought to the Henry County magistrate, who sent him to jail.

A paramedic on duty cut Young down and tried to revive him. Young was transferred to Martinsville Memorial Hospital, where further attempts to save him failed.
