SOUTH AFRICA'S POLITICAL PLAYERS

Here is a list of South Africa's major political parties, their leaders and their expected vote, based on published polls, in the April 26-28 national election:

African National Congress - Nelson Mandela, president. Broad liberation movement transformed into political party. Vote forecast: 55 percent to 65 percent.

National Party - President F.W. de Klerk. Governing party since 1948, created apartheid and dismantled it. Vote forecast: 12 percent to 30 percent.

Freedom Alliance - Rowan Cronje, chairman; Constand Viljoen, Afrikaner People's Front; Chief Mangosuthu Buthelezei, Inkatha. Alliance between pro-apartheid Afrikaner groups and Zulu-dominated Inkatha Freedom Party. Opposes new constitution, wants greater regional autonomy. Vote forecast: 10 percent to 18 percent.

Pan-Africanist Congress - Clarence Makwetu, president. Radical black organization, split from ANC in late 1950s. Opposes constitution. Vote forecast: 3 percent to 5 percent.

Democratic Party - Colin Eglin, MP. Liberal parliamentary party that has opposed apartheid. Vote forecast: 1 percent to 2 percent.
