AMOS, Lewis C. Sr., 84, of Rock Camp, died Monday, April 11, 1994. Funeral 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 13, Broyles Funeral Home Chapel, Peterstown, W.Va.

BALLARD, Wade Hampton IV, 38, of Pearisburg, died at his home Sunday, April 10, 1994. Mr. Ballard was born in Cleveland, Ohio on July 26, 1955, and was a son of Wade H. (Jim) Ballard III and Val J. Ballard of Peterstown, W.V. He attended public schools in Monroe County, W.Va. and Concord College. He was President of the Ballard Construction Company of Pearisburg. He was a member and former President of the New River Valley Homebuilders Association. He was a member of the Giles Country Club and was on the Board of Directors. Besides his parents he is survived by his wife, Beth Croy Ballard of Pearisburg; two sons, Wade Hampton (Hampton) Ballard V, Stephen Reid (Reid) Ballard, both of the home; two brothers, Dr. Dean W. Ballard of Nashville, Tenn., Jeffrey Sherman Ballard of Peterstown, W.Va.; one sister, Mrs. Rodney (Laura Ann) Dunn of Christiansburg, Va.; maternal grandmother, Valerie Jansco of Peterstown, W.Va.; great aunt, Helen Evanko of Clevaland, Ohio; several nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bruce Stephen Ballard. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, April 13, 1994, at 11 a.m. in the Pearisburg First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Warren Stewart officiating with interment in the Ballard Family Cemetery, Peterstown, W.Va. The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home, Pearisburg, Tuesday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pearisburg First United Methodist Church or the American Heart Fund.

DAVIS, Theodore Parks, 86, of Woodland Road, Bassett, died Sunday, April 10, 1994 at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. Born March 29, 1908 in Wilkes County, N. C., he was a son of the late Mary Vannoy and James Harrison Davis. He was retired from Bassett Furniture Industries. Surviving are his wife, Livie Nichols Davis, of the home; two daughters, Mrs. John Gilbert (Shirley) Farmer, Rocky Mount, and Mrs. Robert E. (Betty) Scott, Bassett; a brother, Ralph Davis, North Wilkesboro, N. C.; five sisters, Mrs. Van (Ruth) Wiles, Greensboro, N. C., Mrs. Arlie (Grace) Foster, Winston-Salem, N. C., Mrs. George (Doris) Eysenbach, Bristol, Pa., Ms. Marjorie Davis and Mrs. Gene (Gladys) Billings, both of Wilkesboro, N. C.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Collins Funeral Chapel, Bassett, with Elder Leonar d Brammer officiating. EDWARDS, W. Larry, 66, of Roanoke, died Sunday, April 10, 1994 in a local hospital. Mr. Edwards was a member of Green Ridge Baptist Church, and was retired from the Norfolk Southern Corporation. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, Helen Old Edwards, son and daughter-in-law, Alan W. and Lori V. Edwards, of Roanoke; granddaughter, Savannah V. Edwards; mother, Pauline E. Crawford, Roanoke. Brothers and sisters- in-law, Howard and Pauline Edwards, Cecil and Celeste Edwards, all of Roanoke. A number of nieces and nephews. GARDEN, Henry Rhiel Jr., 76, of Roanoke, formerly of Salem, passed away Monday, April 11, 1994. He was a retired CEO of Old Virginia Brick Company, was an engineering graduate of VPI & SU, and a member of the St. Johns Episcopal Church. Mr. Garden was a former Salem City Councilman, past Vice President of Farmer's National Bank, and a past member of numerous civic, professional and social organizations. He served as an officer in the Army Air Corp during WWII. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jo Morgan Garden, his son, Henry Rhiel Garden III, his sister, Marian Garden Coey. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, John ``Sandy"" Alexander and Barbara Elizabeth Garden, Salem; sisters, Grace Garden Hooker, Santa Cruz, Calif., Dorothy Garden Crowe, Palm Bay, Fla. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 14, 1994 at 1 p.m. in the Sherwood Memorial Park, with the Rev. Thomas Odell officiating. The family will receive friends at John M. HUBBARD, Rhoda L., (``Blondie''), 72, of Roanoke, died Sunday, April 10, 1994. She was the widow of Floyd James Hubbard and was retired from Roanoke Mills (Tultex) with 45 years service. Mrs. Hubbard was a member of Belmont Christian Church. Surviving are two devoted stepdaughters, Joyce H. Urick and Mary H. Poindexter, both of Roanoke; two half sisters, Alice L. Emerson, Martinsville, Hazel Berger, Mechanicsville, Va.; a devoted sister-in-law, Ruth O. LaPrade and a niece, Barbara L. Coleman, both of Roanoke; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, stepgrandchildren; and a host of friends. Services will be at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. John E. Wallace will officiate. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. HUTCHISON, Garnette Leffel, 73, of Newport, Va, died April 10, 1994 at her home. She is preceded in death by a grandson, Jerry Kibler. Surviving are her husband, Paris H. Isbell; father of Nora Lee MacLaughlin and Grayson Michael Isbell; grandfather of Timothy Ian MacLaughlin. KESSINGER, Lector May, 89, of Blacksburg, died Monday, April 11, 1994, at Heritage Hall Health Care Center. Mrs. Kessinger was born in Montgomery County, Virginia, on April 25, 1905, a daughter of the late Floyd Toney and Nellie Long Toney. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Kessinger. Survivors include one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Virginia Toney, Blacksburg; three nieces, Judy Neily, Blacksburg, Mrs. William Bennett, Syracuse, N. Y., Dianne Toney, Raeford, N.C. LINKOUS, Thelma A. ""Tootsie"" Young, 79, of Blacksburg, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 10, 1994. The widow of the Fred Linkous, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Norma Medley; one son, Elwood Young, two grandchildren, Melinda T. Fountain, Joey Young and a great-grandchild, Courtney Cole. PATE, Carlton Lee, 63, of 2809 Shady Lawn Dr., Greensboro, N.C., died Saturday, April 9, 1994, in the VA Hospital, Durham, N.C.. He was born September 12, 1930, in Hallsboro, N.C., the son of the late Roy Lee and Mamie Eason Pate. He served in the U.S. Army and was a retired construction worker. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Rose Pate of Greensboro, N.C.; two sons, Michael Carlton Pate of Browns Summit, N.C., and Christopher Julian Pate of Greensboro, N.C.; two daughters, Elizabeth Pate Penny of Blacksburg, Va., and Naomi Pate Minor of Stokesdale, N.C.; six grandchildren. SHUFFLEBARGER, Garnette Elizabeth, 89, of 111 Wayside Drive in Bridgewater, died Saturday, April 9, 1994, in Rockingham Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient since Monday, April 4, 1994. She was born in Lee County, on October 12, 1904, and was a daughter of the late, Jacob Brown and Mollie Bowling Shufflebarger. She graduated from Radford College, class of 1928; then she did some graduate work at the University of Virginia. She taught school in the City of Charlottesville for more than fifty years, retiring in 1971. After her retirement she moved to Bridgewater in 1986. She was a member of the Bridgewater United Methodist Church, and the Retired Teacher's A ssociation. She is survived by one sister, Irma Odom of Bridgewater; three nieces, Carla Phipps, Tess Hueston, and Carol William. A funeral service was conducted at 3 p.m. on Monday, April 11, 1994, in the Johnson Funeral Service Chapel, in Bridgewater. The Revs. Michael Kubat and John Oldman officiated. SINK, William Lee, ("Billy") 61, of Roanoke, died Sunday April 10, 1994 at the VA Medical Center in Salem after a short illness. Mr. Sink served with the U.S. Army 82nd Engineering Division during the Korean War. Mr. Sink was preceded in death by his father, Cubie J. Sink. Surviving are two sons, Steve L. Sink and David A. Sink; one daughter, Bonnie G. Sink; his mother Mildred G. Sink; one uncle and aunt Fred and Ruth Goad, all of Roanoke; numerous other realtives and friends. THOMAS, Ruth Farrell, 88, life-long resident of Botetourt County died Monday, April 11, 1994, at home. She was born September 18, 1905, the daughter of the late James Edward and Landonia Farrell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Houston H. Thomas and a daughter, Frankie Johnson. She attended Woodland Church in Fincastle. She is survived by two daughters, Nellie Holland and husband, Harold ,of Kalamazoo, Michigan; Doris Heck and husband Rodney of Eagle Rock; one son, Houston (Sonny) Thomas and wife Janie, Troutville. She has a son-in-law, Walter Johnson of Eagle Rock; eleven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Esther Young, Clifton Forge, Naomi Craft, Roanoke, Clara Yono, Waynesboro, Allie Marshall, Richmond; two brothers, James P. VURNAKES, Sophia Emmanuel, of Roanoke, passed away Sunday, April 10, 1994. She was born in Roanoke, Va. She was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Thursday Morning Music Club, and Carrie Lee Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She graduated from Jefferson High School, National Business College, and obtained an Associate Degree in education from Virginia Western.
