Tim Capaldi, the first to race a blown alcohol hydro boat more than 200 mph, was killed Sunday in a crash at the International Hot Boat Association Spring Nationals in San Dimas, Calif. He was 31.
Capaldi, a three-time IHBA blown alcohol hydro world champion, crashed his boat going nearly 200 mph in a first-round elimination at Puddingstone Lake.
The reason for the crash was not immediately known, said Karin Mosher of Capaldi Racing.
