By designating Virginia a major disaster area, the president made federal money available to two cities and 27 counties.
The two cities slated to receive aid are Emporia and Radford.
James Lee Witt, director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, said the declaration directs the federal government to reimburse affected jurisdictions for 75 percent of costs related to storm damage. The rest is to be provided by the state and local governments.
