ROANOKE COUNTY RESIDENTS OFFERED FREE BRUSH DISPOSAL

Roanoke County residents can take advantage of free brush disposal until the debris from the winter ice storms is gone.

There are two locations to bring brush - the regional landfill on Rutrough Road and a temporary site at the end of Commonwealth Drive in the Southwest Industrial Park, off Merriman Dirve in southwest county.

The landfill will take brush from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. The industrial park site will take brush from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Free mulch will be available there at a later date.

Only clean brush in loads the size of pick-up truck beds or smaller will be accepted and vehicles must have a county decal.

The county has also hired contractors - who are bringing their own equipment - to assist regular crews in picking up brush on county roads. Because of the massive amount of downed trees and branches from the storm, county crews have been unable to maintain the regular monthly brush pick-up schedule.

The county expects to make at least one pick-up throughout the county by the end of the month.
