ALLEGHANY RIPS PARRY MCCLUER

Alleghany pounded Parry McCluer 12-0 behind the pitching of Pat Hall and Brian Nicely in a boys' high school baseball game on Tuesday in Covington.

Hall and Nicely combined for a two-hitter and struck out 15. Dusty Rowland was 3-for-3 with one RBI for Alleghany (4-1).

In other baseball:

At Max Meadows, Peter Kelly drove in the winning run as Fort Chiswell (1-5) rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 5-4 victory over Rocky Gap (0-6).

At Hot Springs, David Buzzard scattered seven hits over 5 innings, walked one and struck out three for his first career victory as Bath County beat Rockbridge County 3-1. Jon Rogers pitched the final 1 innings for the save.

At Pearisburg, Scott Phipps struck out 15 in seven innings and allowed three hits to lead Tazewell (2-0) to an 8-1 victory over Giles. Chris Albert hit a solo home run for Giles (2-4).

Jeff Hawks and Chad Foutz combined for a three-hitter as Franklin County beat Pulaski County 3-2 in eight innings in the Roanoke Valley District at Rocky Mount. Hawks started and pitched the first six innings, allowing just one hit, and Foutz (2-0) threw the final two.

Justin Sigmon was 2-for-4 and drove home Scott Lynch with a fielder's choice in the bottom of the eighth to win the game for Franklin County (5-2 overall, 3-0 RVD). Pulaski County fell to 3-3 and 1-2.

\ SOFTBALL: Dana Hurt drove in four runs for Roanoke Valley Christian which pounded Carlisle 29-2 in a Blue Ridge Conference game in Martinsville. Hurt went 3-for-5 for the Eagles (3-0) and Jenny Coons drove in three runs on three hits. Amy Helton (3-0) was the winning pitcher. Carlisle dropped to 3-2.

\ BOYS' SOCCER: At Moneta, Adam Sabine scored two goals for Staunton River as the Golden Eagles (1-4) beat James River 3-1.

At Wytheville, Daniel Fisher scored two goals to lead Christiansburg to a 4-0 victory over George Wythe.

\ GIRLS' SOCCER: Tiffanie Jackson scored three goals and two assists as Cave Spring (5-0) whipped Magna Vista 9-1 at Cave Spring.
