EAGLES EDGE PULASKI COUNTY

Jeff Hawks and Chad Foutz combined for a three-hitter as Franklin County beat Pulaski County 3-2 in eight innings in a Roanoke Valley District baseball game Tuesday at Rocky Mount.

Hawks started and pitched the first six innings, allowing just one hit, and Foutz (2-0) threw the final two.

Justin Sigmon was 2-for-4 and drove home Scott Lynch with a fielder's choice in the bottom of the eighth to win the game for Franklin County (5-2 overall, 3-0 RVD).

Pulaski County fell to 3-3 and 1-2.

In other baseball:

At Pearisburg, Scott Phipps struck out 15 in seven innings and allowed three hits to lead Tazewell to an 8-1 victory over Giles. Tazewell is 2-0. Chris Albert hit a solo home run for Giles (2-4).

At Northside, Mark Freeland (2-1) pitched a three-hitter through six innings and struck out eight to lead Northside to a 10-6 victory over William Fleming. At the plate for the Vikings (5-1-1), Scott Booth was 3-for-3 with two RBI, Brian Sells was 2-for-2 with one RBI and Nick Gibson was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI.

\ SOFTBALL: Tonya Jones had three hits and Wanda Toney cracked a home run to lead Franklin County (2-3) to a 7-6 victory over Heritage.

\ BOYS' SOCCER: At Moneta, Adam Sabine scored two goals for Staunton River as the Golden Eagles (1-4) beat James River 3-1.

At Wytheville, Daniel Fisher scored two goals to lead Christiansburg to a 4-0 victory over George Wythe.

At Bedford, Lee Fisher and Khoa Tran each scored goals for Liberty (3-1 overall, 3-0 Seminole District) in its 2-1 victory over Nelson County.

At Dublin, Gregg Adamo had two goals to help Blacksburg beat Pulaski County 4-1. The Indians are 5-0-1; Pulaski County is 0-3.

\ GIRLS SOCCER: Tiffanie Jackson scored three goals and two assists as Cave Spring (5-0) whipped Magna Vista 9-1 at Cave Spring.

At Pearisburg, Shane Meredith had two goals to lead Giles (1-3) to a 3-0 victory over Glenvar.
