HODGE UNCERTAIN ABOUT ODU FUTURE

Center Odell Hodge said Tuesday he is "undecided" about whether he will return to Old Dominion for the first season under a new basketball coach.

Hodge, a former Laurel Park standout, went home to Martinsville last weekend upon hearing Oliver Purnell had taken the job at Dayton. The Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year said he spoke with his parents about his options, which he said include:

Transferring. Hodge said Virginia Tech, Virginia Commonwealth and Wake Forest were "the top three schools that come to my mind." Hodge said if ODU athletic director Jim Jarrett had not called the players together for a meeting Sunday night, he might have stayed home to begin contacting schools to gauge their interest in him.

Entering the NBA draft. Under a new NCAA rule, underclassmen can declare for the draft any time before May 15 and then elect to return to school within 30 days after the draft if they do not sign with an agent. Hodge, who has two years of eligibility remaining, said he probably will not make that move, but is still considering it.

"I was stunned a little bit to hear [Purnell] had been offered another job," Hodge said. "I took it pretty hard and went home a couple days to get away from everyone asking questions. A whole lot of things went through my mind. Basically my status for next year is undecided right now. I'm almost sure I won't put my name in the draft, but I'm keeping it as a consideration. I can't be sure whether I'll be at Old Dominion or not."
