ETC. FERRUM WOMEN SHARE DIXIE TITLE

Ferrum College split a softball doubleheader with North Carolina Wesleyan, giving the Panthers a share of the Dixie Conference regular-season title. Ferrum won the first game 7-2 and lost the nightcap 6-3 in Rocky Mount, N.C.

It was the first time a women's team at Ferrum has won a Dixie Conference title in any sport. The Panthers (21-13) set a school record for victories entering the conference tournament this week. They finished 7-3 in Dixie play.

At Pinhook, Liberty University shot a three-day total of 921 to win the Liberty University/Water's Edge Intercollegiate Golf Tournament held at Water's Edge Country Club. Jim Nickerson of Methodist was the medalist with a 224.

The Virginia JV was third at 933, Radford University was seventh at 966 and the Virginia Tech JV was ninth with a 979.
