RELIGION BRIEFS

THE ROANOKE CHAMBER SINGERS, formed last year of solo-caliber musicians, will present the Easter portions of "Messiah" by Handel on May 8 at 4 p.m. at Greene Memorial United Methodist Church, 402 Second St.

\ Frank Morris directs the group, which specializes in church music of Latin background, English and Russian folk tunes, songs of the stage and spirituals. Sixteen singers are in the choir, which has performed at both church and secular functions around the Roanoke Valley. Nancy Delaney will be organist for the May program.

\ DICK and EDITH SCHISLER, missionaries in Brazil who have been supported by Greene Memorial United Methodist Church for many years, will retire at the end of 1994 as they complete supervision of a nursing care facility in Florianopolis.

\ A WRITING SEMINAR to help church members produce more effective newsletters, inspirational articles, seasonal materials and devotional stories for children is scheduled Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at First Church of the Nazarene, 728 Highland Ave. S.E. Barbara K. Shaffer, a Roanoker with experience in marketing, writing and editing for church people, will lead the seminar. The fee of $24.95 includes luncheon and materials. \ FOUR PASTORS will conduct evangelistic services that begin Friday at Central United Methodist Church, 428 College Ave. in Salem. The Rev. M. Douglas Newman will preach Friday night, and the Rev. John Wynn Myers on Saturday; both are retired clergymen living in Roanoke. The Sunday morning speaker at 11 a.m. is the Rev. Wallace Chappell of Nashville, Tenn. The final preacher is the Rev. John H. Bartee, who serves a church in the Staunton area. All evening services will start at 7:30.

\ BETHEL BAPTIST CHURCH, 1601 Colorado St. in Salem , will begin revival services Sunday at 10:55 a.m. The Rev. Roger Roller of Rustburg also will preach Sunday through Thursday nights at 7.
