EX-JEFFERSON STAR INDUCTED INTO W&M HALL OF FAME

David H. Edmunds, a former All-State football player at Jefferson High School, has been inducted into the William and Mary sports hall of fame.

Edmunds, who lives in Pinehurst, N.C., earned All-State honors in 1955 as a halfback and also was a member of Jefferson's 1954 state champion golf team. He is part of a well-known family of athletes from the Roanoke area. Brothers Bill (1949) and Don (1956) were All-State ends at Jefferson.

A fourth brother, Keith, starred in basketball at Andrew Lewis High School. He went on to play at Randolph-Macon. Bill Edmunds played football at Duke, while Don Edmunds played at Hampden-Sydney, where he also was captain of the tennis team.

David Edmunds was starting halfback at William and Mary from 1956 to 1959. He was also a sprinter on the track team.

On graduation from William and Mary, Edmunds played football four years in the Marine Corps, where he earned the rank of 1st lieutenant. While in officer training at Quantico, he set the all-time record for running the physical fitness course.

Edmunds recently retired as an executive director with C&P Telephone Co., where he had worked for 32 years. He is married to the former Jean Morgan. They have two sons, Dave and Matt.
