Cancer Society to hold Relay for Life May 13, 14

The American Cancer Society's third annual "Relay for Life" will be held May 13 and 14 at Victory Stadium.

The race will raise money for cancer research and education, and patient services in the Roanoke area.

The society's goal for the event is 150 teams whose members will collect pledges for the time they walk, run or jog.

The 24-hour team relay is dedicated to present and former cancer patients and their families and friends. Cancer survivors are invited to attend the opening ceremony at 6 p.m. on May 13, and participate in the first lap of the relay.

During the overnight event, entertainment will be provided by Michael Brown, the Craig County Boys, Wings of Faith, Holy Wind, Bill Fields, the Kazim Klowns, Gary Galbraith and members of the New Virginians.

Awards will be presented during the closing ceremony at 6 p.m. May 14.

For more information, call the cancer society at 344-8699.
