CRAIG SUPERVISORS TAKE ACTION ON HUNTING, ROADS

During its recent meeting, the Craig County Board of Supervisors took the following actions:

Passed a resolution, asking the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries to extend the hunting season for female deer for two to six days.

The supervisors said the deer population in Craig has increased and that farm-crop damage by deer has increased in the last three years.

Approved an advisory committee to look into the possibility of downtown revitalization in the Town of New Castle. The committee, being appointed jointly with the New Castle Town Council, also educates downtown business people to what revitalization would mean to them.

Appointed to the committee were Lawrence Caldwell, Bobby Lugar, Roger Gillingham, Charles Barnes, Janet Meyers and Norman Taylor.

Petitioned the Virginia Department of Transportation to make improvements to a curve just north of the Mountain View Christian Church on Virginia 311. The supervisors said the curve there, which is about 90 degrees, does not meet minimum design standards.

The transportation department is being asked to add the project to the county's six-year plan.
