Northside's Jay Stafford went 2-for-3 with three RBI, Eric Miller hit a two-run homer, Mark Freeland launched a solo homer and John Doss had three hits in a 15-0 slaughter-rule shortened victory over host William Fleming. Al Holland Jr. had two hits for the Colonels.
Kent Edwards of visiting Holy Cross pitched a one-hitter and went 3-for-5, and Keith Buck singled, doubled and tripled in a 15-0 rout of Roanoke Valley Christian. Holy Cross is 3-0 overall, 2-0 in the Virginia Independent Conference; RVC is 1-4, 1-2.
In Daleville, Billy Arthur pitched a one-hitter and struck out 14 to lead Lord Botetourt to a 6-0 victory over Pulaski County (2-5). Arthur had a no-hitter for 5 innings. Brian Davis and Jack Johnson had two hits apiece for the Cavaliers (4-1).
\ BOYS' SOCCER: Andy McCaskill scored the goal as William Byrd edged host Salem 1-0 in a Blue Ridge District game.
Patrick Henry's Dutes Alexis scored twice and Ashley Kinsey and Jack Edwards added goals as the Patriots (3-2-1, 2-0) beat visiting Pulaski County 4-1 in a Roanoke Valley District game. Brad Dalton scored for the Cougars (1-3, 0-1).
Kirk Perrow scored both Radford goals on penalty kicks as the host Bobcats (7-1) beat Northside 2-1 in a non-district game.
\ GIRLS' SOCCER: Emily Cook scored twice and added an assist as North Cross (1-4-1, 1-0-0) shut out visiting Stuart Hall 3-0 in a Blue Ridge Conference game. Emily Manetta had 10 saves, including one on a penalty kick, for the Raiders. Stuart Hall is 0-4-1 and 0-1-0.
\ SOFTBALL: Amy Popik's two-run double capped a four-run rally in the bottom of the ninth inning as Cave Spring (5-2) edged E.C. Glass 10-9 in a non-district game. Shantee Johnson hit two three-run homers for Glass.
North Cross used seven hits to score five runs in the fifth inning and went on to a 7-0 victory over visiting Hargrave Military Academy (2-3). Lori Dodson went 2-for-3 and her cousin, Lesley Dodson, went 2-for-4 to lead the offense for the Raiders (3-2).
