ALBERT, Anna Belle Brandon, 67, of Radford, passed away Thursday, April 14, 1994. Survivors include her husband, Lacy C. Albert of Radford; one daughter, Mrs. Regina Carraway of Pulaski; one brother, Patrick Brandon of Hinton, WVa.; three sisters, Mrs. Ruth B. Lemmon of Roanoke, Mrs. Betty Cales of Lebanon, Oh.; and Mrs. Mary Ethel Cales of Whitter, Cali.; and one grandson, Charles Russell, Jr. Graveside services will be held Sunday, April 17, 1994 at 2 pm at West View Cemetery in Radford with the Rev. BRYSON, Grace Mary F., 81, of Roanoke, died Thursday, April 14, 1994. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Harold L. and Patricia Bryson, Roanoke, Kenneth ``Fritt'' and Barbara Bryson, Franklin County; a daughter and son-in-law, Beverly Ann and David Koepp, Greensboro, N.C.; a sister, Dorothy Clemmer, Roanoke; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted at Lotz Roanoke Chapel 3 p.m. Monday, April 18, 1994, with the Rev. Lanny Carter officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Burial Park. BYRD, Effie Pinkard, (``Mama Effie''), 101, died Friday, April 15, 1994, at South Roanoke Nursing Home. Born July 31, 1892, in Ferrum to the late Charles Edmond Pinkard and Lula Starkey Pinkard. Mrs. Byrd was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Harden Byrd. Mrs. Byrd was a member of Bassett Memorial United Methodist Church and she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #11, Bassett. Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Draper of Roanoke, Margaret Jarrett of Bassett; two sons, Lloyd Pinkard Byrd Sr. and Herman C. Byrd, both of Bassett; a sister, Gladys F. Pinkard of Bassett; a brother, Hendrix C. Pinkard of Roanoke; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, at Bassett Memorial United Methodist Church with interment in Roselawn Burial Park, Martinsville. The Rev. Jim Meredith and Rev. Joseph B. COX, Samuel R., (``Gike''), 78, of Atkins, died Friday, April 15, 1994, in the Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, Virginia. Mr. Cox was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy. He was a member of the Marion VFW Post #4667 and a retired businessman of the Atkins Community. He is survived by his wife, Elsie Calhoun Cox of Atkins; one daughter, Connie Cox Potter of Shawboro, N.C.; two sons, Sammy Cox and Willie Cox both of Atkins; three sisters, Ann Cox Jennings of Marion, Polly Cox Ernest and Eva ``Toots'' Cox Jarvis both of Sugar Grove; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 17, 1994, 2 p .m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Grady Byrd officiating. GEE, Mary Loraine, 86, of Roanoke, died Friday, April 15, 1994 in a local nursing home. Mrs. Gee was the widow of George L. Gee. She was a member of First Baptist Church and a volunteer at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Surviving are a son, George M. Gee, Hardy; daughter, Janet Sue Gee Tolley, Roswell, Ga.; sister, Mrs. Charles (Wilma Julian) Adcock, Columbus, Ga.; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Erma Ruley, Olive Hill, Ky.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. McDANIEL, Arthur Wilmer, 71, of Roanoke, died Thursday, April 14, 1994, in a Salem hospital. He was retired from Western Electric. He is survived by his wife, Bertha Reynolds McDaniel; a daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Ervin Hawley, Powder Springs, Ga.; a brother and sister-in-law, Ralph N. and Barbara McDaniel, Roanoke; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Mamie Dunning, Salem, Frances and William Mattingly, Lexington, Ky., Lucille Pyles, Stony Point, N.C., Mary Sue and A.W. ROSS, Rodney David Sr., 47, of Pembroke, died Thursday evening, April 14, 1994 in a Pearisburg, Va. hospital. Born in Roderfield, W. Va., he was a son of Mrs. Mary Martin Ross of Mullens, W. Va. and the late Ernie Ross. He was employed as a respiratory technician at Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg and was a veteran of the U. S. Army, Viet Nam Era. Also surviving are his wife, Sara Kauhlke Ross; four sons, Rodney David Ross Jr., Mullens, W. Va., Jeffrey S. Ross, King, N. C., John D. Ross, and Jeremy Ross, both of the home; three brothers, Donald L. Ross, Narrows, Roger Allen Ross, Carthage, Ind., and Ernie Ross Jr., Mullens, W. Va. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, April 17, 1994 at 2 p.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel in Pembroke, Va., with burial in Birchlawn Burial Park, Pearisburg. SHAVER, Clyde Edward, 73, of Blacksburg, died Thursday, April 14, 1994 in Montgomery Regional Hospital. Mr. Shaver was born in Montgomery County on February 15, 1921 to the late George Thomas Shaver and Roxie Belle Dove Shaver. Survivors include his wife, Mary Lee Shaver; one daughter, Kimberly Kay Shaver, Blacksburg; one sister, Mary Kate Lafon, Blacksburg; three brothers, John H. Shaver, Sidney R. Shaver, both of Blacksburg, Hobert Shaver, Pearisburg; a special brother-in-law, William L. Long, Newport; numerous nieces and nephews. SUTPHIN, Garnie F., 83, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, April 14, 1994, at his home. He retired from Vinton Weaving Mill after 42 years of service. He was a World War II combat veteran and received the Purple Heart. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Pollard Sutphin; a daughter, Sharon S. Brabham; a son, Charles L. Sutphin; three grandchildren, Brian J. Brabham, Laura Brabham, Scott Sutphin; one brother, Merle Sutphin; two sisters, Elizabeth Bowman, Teressa Dalton. THOMAS, John W., (``Jack''), 66, of Vinton, passed away Friday, April 15, 1994, in a local hospital. He was a retired engineer for the Norfolk & Western Railroad. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Ridinger Thomas; one son and daughter-in-law, John W. Thomas Jr. and Kathy A. Thomas, Troutville; one daughter, Suzanne Thomas, Richmond; two sisters, Helen Thomas Manning, and Sue Thomas Dooley, both of Roanoke; one granddaughter, Holly Marie Thomas. WORLEY, Sidney Nelson, 91, of Galax, formerly of Bluefield, passed away Friday, April 15, 1994, in Galax. Mr. Worley was a member of the Mt. Vale United Methodist Church, and was retired from the Amoco Oil Company. He is survived by his wife, Thelma Worley, Galax, formerly of Bluefield; two daughters and son-in-law, Wanda and James Clevenger, Newark, Deleware, and Ruth Greene, McKeesport, Pa.; one stepdaughter and son-in-law, Melba and Don Knox, Galax, and stepson and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Doris Morehead of Parkersburg, W.Va; one sister, Lizzie Covey of Charlottesville, Va.; two stepsisters, Hattie Beard and Doris Childress, both of Charlottesville, Va.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. WRIGHT, Andrew Jackson II, (``Jack""), 64, of Gretna, died Friday, April 15, 1994. He was a son of the late Andrew Jackson Wright and Daisy Turner Wright. He was co-owner of Wright Barber & Beauty Supply Co., Vinton, Va. for over 40 years. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Hershman Wright, of the home.
