FORMER FIGURE SKATING CHAMPION DIES

AIDS claimed the life of former Olympic and world champion figure skater John Curry, the man who brought artistry to the sport.

Curry, 44, died Friday at his home near Stratford-upon-Avon from a heart attack brought on by his AIDS condition, agent Jean Diamond said.

The English skater, who won the gold medal at the 1976 Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria, and the World Championship the same year, was diagnosed as having the HIV virus in 1987.
