Louisville's Steve Honchell led the individual competition with a 70, but the round of the day was played by Tech's Curtis Deal. After hitting his first four drives out of bounds on the par-5 third hole en route to a 12, Deal recovered to birdie the last seven holes and finish with a round of 2-over 73.

In Rocky Mount, N.C, three-time defending champion Georgia Tech grabbed a one-shot lead over Duke through one round of the ACC tournament.
The Yellow Jackets, ranked 10th in the nation, carded a team score of 286 at Northgreen Country Club to lead the Blue Devils. Virginia (295) was fifth in the 54-hole event that ends Sunday.
Georgia Tech's Stewart Cink was the only golfer to break 70, carding a 3-under 69. He leads UVa's Simon Cooke and Duke's Mike Muehr by a shot.
