Farrell had both Salem hits and drove in both runs as the Bucs lost 6-2 to the Frederick Keys in a Carolina League baseball game shortened to 5 1/2 innings because of rain.
Salem took the lead in the first inning when Jake Austin drew a two-out walk and scored on a double to left field by Farrell.
Frederick tied it in the bottom of the inning on an RBI triple to right by Bryan Link.
The Keys took control in the second inning. Eric Chavez led off with a solo homer, and, after Roy Hodge walked with two out, Kimera Bartee knocked him in with a double off Bucs starter Ted Klamm (0-1).
Link doubled to lead off the third for Frederick. Billy Owens drew a one-out walk, and Manuel Santana relieved Klamm. Chavez's single scored Link to make it 4-1.
Farrell made it 4-2 with a solo home run in the fourth.
Juan Segura, Salem's shortstop, dropped a pop fly in the fifth to set the stage for two unearned runs.
Keys starter Scott Emerson (1-0) walked three, struck out five and did not allow a hit other than the two by Farrell.
The teams meet again at 7:05 p.m. today.
