Air Force Airman Christopher L. Rutledge has been named student leader of the month. Selection was based on his exemplary duty performance, job knowledge, leadership qualities, significant self-improvement and other accomplishments. Rutledge is the son of Olivia B. Rutledge of Christiansburg.

William L. Roope, son of Rosa E. Rogers of Dublin, has been promoted in the U.S. Air Force to the rank of senior airman. He is an avionics attack control systems specialist at Cannon Air Force Base, Clovis, N.M.

Navy Seaman Recruit James L. Brown, son of Debbie C. Watson of Christiansburg, completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Army Pvt. Larry R. Meredith has graduated from the power generation equipment repairer course at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Aberdeen, Md. Meredith is the son of Larry B. and Anna C. Meredith of Pembroke.

Air Force Airman Brent A. Pack has graduated from the aircraft pneudraulic systems course at Sheppard Air Force Base, Wichita Falls, Tex. He is the son of Alan Pack of Pearisburg.

Navy Seaman Recruit Robert T. Burgess has completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. He is the son of Janice C. Burgess of Rich Creek.

Navy Hospitalman Recruit Sherry L. Brown, daughter of Paul A. Brown of Shawsville, graduated from the Basic Hospital Corps School at Naval Hospital Corps School in Great Lakes, Ill.

Marine Pvt. Roger A. Croy, son of Brenda S. Croy and Roger Croy of Radford, completed recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.

Marine Pvt. Christopher W. Delph, has completed recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. He is the son of Jerry W. and Patricia A. Delph of Radford.

Navy Airman Apprentice Lisa D. Viers, daughter of Robert J. and Sonja H. Veltri of Blacksburg, recently reported for duty at Naval Station, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Navy Seaman Apprentice David E. Downing recently reported for duty with Naval Security Group Activity at Fort George G. Mead, Md. He is the son of Richard and Linda Hamilton of Elliston.

Marine Lance Cpl. Charles J. Meade, son of Barbara E. Morrow of Shawsville, has reported for duty with Marine Helicopter Squadron One, Marine Corps Base, Quantico,Va.

Marine Lance Cpl. Christopher W. Keene, son of Roger Keene of Pulaski, recently deployed for a four-week Combined Arms Exercise at Twentynine Palms, Calif.
