PAR-FM, the contemporary Christian radio network, has put its Roanoke transmitter on the air at 91.3 FM. New River Valley listeners have been enjoying WPIN (91.5 FM) in Dublin since early this year. A low-power translator near Blacksburg also broadcasts the network's programs at 102.5 FM.

The Roanoke outlet is the second in what will be a five-station, listener-supported network of stations that will cover much of Western Virginia as well as parts of Tennessee, North Carolina and West Virginia. The network will be commercial-free and will rely on tax-free contributions from listeners and corporate sponsors to stay on the air.

The network programs Christian-oriented music and talk via its studios in Blacksburg. The music features performers such as Amy Grant, Sandi Patti, Steven Curtis Chapman and Bebe and Cece Winans.

George McNerlin, the network's general manager, said the Roanoke station has been hearing from listeners as far away as Martinsville and Lynchburg.
