MAN GETS 15 YEARS IN DEATH OF WIFE

An Indian Valley man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison in connection with the August 1993 shooting death of his wife.

David Lewis Radford, 46, was charged with murdering Phyllis Phillips Radford in the couple's mobile home on Virginia 759. A medical examiner's report said the woman died as a result of a single gunshot wound in the chest.

As a result of a plea agreement, Radford will serve 12 years for second degree murder and three years for using a firearm in committing a felony. A five-year sentence for possession of a firearm after being convicted of a felony will run concurrently, said Clerk of Courts Wendall Peters.

Radford was sentenced Tuesday in Floyd County Circuit Court by Judge Ray Grubbs. He will begin serving his term Tuesday.
