PARENTS CHARGED WITH LETTING TEEN-AGERS DRINK

A doctor and his wife were named in multiple misdemeanor indictments alleging they allowed a group of teen-agers to drink alcohol during a Halloween party at their home.

An Isle of Wight County grand jury returned the indictments against Dr. Glenn P. Bidwell Jr., 48, and his wife Catherine, 42.

Authorities found out about the party when a girl told deputies she was sexually assaulted at the event by a teen-age boy. The boy, who was not identified because of his age, was charged in juvenile court in that case, said Sheriff Charles W. Phelps.

Parents of teen-agers who went to the Oct. 23 party said up to 75 people attended.

Robert Chapman, a spokesman for the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Board, said state policy on teen drinking is ``zero tolerance.''

``Even if they're drinking with responsible adults, it's still illegal,'' he said.
