WASHINGTON - President and Hillary Rodham Clinton paid $62,670 in federal taxes on an adjusted gross income of $293,757 during his first year in the White House, according to tax returns released today.

The 1993 tax year was the first in which Clinton's income exceeded that of his wife, a corporate lawyer who long had been the family's main breadwinner.

Because of overpayments, the Clintons are entitled to a refund of $7,982 for 1993, their returns showed.
