THE LEAGUE

WANT TO know where to register for the May 3 municipal elections in Roanoke, Salem and other places in Virginia?

The answer is: nowhere. It's too late to register, because state law requires that the voter lists be closed 29 days before a general election.

It's not too late, though, to register for subsequent elections, and a handy pocket guide from the League of Women Voters of the Roanoke Area tells you how.

Or, if you've registered before, how to tell if you're still registered.

Or, in the booklet's brief 24 pages, who your school-board members are, where to write your congressman, and what your property tax rates are.

Not to mention the names and phone numbers of state legislators from the area, county supervisors, city and town council members, school-board members and planning-commission members.

Heck, if you'd had the booklet in time, you could even have learned about the 29-day limit before elections.

The guide, "1994 Facts for Voters," covers the cities of Roanoke and Salem; Roanoke, Botetourt and Franklin counties; and the towns within those counties.

Dialing 989-5998 should get you more information from the league about voting and elections.
