BAILEY, Opal Lillian Caudle, 84, of Vinton, passed away Saturday, April 16, 1994, in a local hospital. She was the widow of Robert Lee Bailey. Surviving are one son, Robert T. Bailey of Vinton; two daughters, Margie B. Lyke of Big Stone Gap, Shirley B. Williams of Vinton; also eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, 1994, from the Lotz Vinton Chapel with the Rev. Rick Via and the Rev. Kenneth Butterworth officiating. BATTLE, William R. (Bill), 69, of Roanoke, died Saturday, April 16, 1994. He was retired President and Chief Executive Officer at Shenandoah Life Insurance Company, was an elder at Second Presbyterian Church and served as a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Air Corps during World War II. Surviving are his wife, Jane Nichol Brown Battle; daughter, Rebecca (Becky) Brown Battle; son, William Lee Battle, all of Roanoke; mother, Margaret Rainey Battle, El Paso, Texas; three sisters-in-law, Jessie Orrell, Green Valley, Ariz., Hannie Battle, Buffalo, N.Y., Dimple Barbee, Nashville, Tenn.; four nieces; two nephews. A memorial service will be conducted at Second Presbyterian Church 11 a.m. Tuesday with Dr. William R. Klein officiating. BURGER, Roy Mont, 81, of Roanoke, passed away Sunday, April 17, 1994, at his residence. He was retired crane operator for the Norfolk & Western Railroad. Surviving are his wife, Bertha Moses Burger; three stepchildren., H.C. Hartless, Vinton, Brenda Kessler, Elizabeth Byrd, both of Roanoke; also seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. CAMPBELL, Floyd Wilson, 71, of Troutville, died Sunday, April 17, 1994. He was retired from Webster Brick Company, with over 33 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Ruby T. Campbell; son and daughter-in-law, Robert W. and Penny Campbell, Roanoke; three daughters and sons-in-law, Katherine and Bobby Kelley, Salem, Doris and Kerry Camper, Troutville, Wanda and Kenny Stevens, Troutville; brother, James Edward Campbell, Blue Ridge; sisters, Mrs. Hazel Taylor, Clifton Forge, Mrs. Alley Sloan, Covington; three granddaughters, two grandsons, and one great-granddaughter. COLLIER, Janetta Warner, 60, of Route 2, Narrows, died Saturday, April 16, 1994, at her residence. A life long resident of Giles County, she was born on September 14, 1933 and was the daughter of the late Carson D. and Virginia Dare Hare Warner. She was a member of the East Chapel Community Church, Route 2, Narrows and was an employee of the Hoechst/Celanese Fibers Company Plant in Narrows. She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. She is survived by her husband, Elmer Ray Collier Sr.; two sons, Ray Collier of Richmond, and Kevin and daughter-in-law, Amy Collier of Narrows; a daughter, Judith C. Kleen of Elliston; two grandchildren, Matt Kleen of Roanoke, Kyle Dexter Collier of Narrows. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the East Chapel Community Church, Route 2, Narrows, with the Rev. Robert Holt officiating. Burial will follow in the Ferrell Cemetery. ERB, Harley Ellsworth, 95, of Richfield Retirement Community, Salem, passed away Sunday, April 17, 1994. He is preceded in death by his wife, Louise Dillard Erb in 1987. He is survived by two sons, Harley E. Erb III of Nashville, Tenn., Dr. Blair D. Erb of Jackson, Tenn., five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen E. Eller of Roanoke and Virginia E. Lieb of Buena Vista. Mr. Erb was a member of the Salem Presbyterian Church and had served as elder in the Evergreen Presbyterian Church in Memphis, Tenn. He was Past President and Paul Harris Fellow of the Salem Rotary Club, and recipient of the Outstanding Citizen Award. He was a native of Roanoke, a veteran of World War I and he graduated from Roanoke College in 1920. In 1929 he served as president of the Roanoke College Alumni Association. He was an Eagle Scout, served as Scoutmaster, Scout Commissioner, and Scout Council President before becoming a professional scouter. In 1932 he joined the National Staff of the Boy Scouts of America, rising to leader of the Boy Scout movement in five southern states for 27 years before his retirement in 1964. He was a member of Scounting's International Training Team. Mr. Erb was listed in Who's Who in the South and Southest and in the Dictionary of International Biography. He was commissioned Aide De Camp by the Governor of Tennessee and was a Kentucky Colonel, Arkansas Traveler and an Honorary Citizen of New Orleans, La. He was recognized as one of Roanoke College's Sesquicentennial Distinguished Alumni in 1992. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, 1994, at Sale m Presbyterian Church with Dr. Leighton Culler officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park, Roanoke. HENSON, Woodrow Ware, 79, of Buena Vista, died Saturday, April 16, 1994, at Heritage Hall in Lexington. He was born March 9, 1915, in Amherst County. He was preceded in death by his parents Fletcher and Eva Slough Henson. He was a member of the Buena Vista Pentecostal Holiness Church. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie A. Henson; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Darlene Henson; one sister, Elsie Hillard, all of Buena Vista; two grandchildren, Laura and Brent Camden of Buena Vista; two very special friends at Heritage Hall, Carl Smith and Rebecca Wright. IDDINGS, Frank Gibson, 66, of Blacksburg, formerly of Roanoke, died peacefully Saturday, April 16, 1994, at his home with his family by his side. Mr. Iddings was owner of the Iddings Real Estate and Building Masters, a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Navy, and a member of the Blacksburg Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday School Director. Survivors include his wife, Audrey Maxey Iddings; three children, Linda I. Robinson and husband, Mike, Roanoke, Judy I. Pack and husband, James, Charlotte, N.C., and Frank G. Iddings Jr. and wife, Kathy, Stephens City; four grandchildr en, Donna R. Lanier, David M. Robinson Jr., and Diana M. Robinson, all of Roanoke, Kaylen E. Iddings, Stephens City; one great-grandchild, William Chase Lanier II; one brother, Daniel E. LINDSAY, Frances Jacque, 78, of Lexington, died Sunday, April 17, 1994, at Stonewall Jackson Hospital. Born February 7, 1916, in Rockbridge Co., she was the daughter of the late Harvey Burlin Jacque and Ethel Flint Jacque. Mrs. Lindsay was a member of the R. E. Lee Memorial Episcopal Church and was the widow of Mr. Wilson D. Lindsay. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Earl Edwards Jr., Lexington; brother, Carl W. (``Sonny"") Jacque, Lexington; granddaughter, Khristi Edwards, Lexington; two great-nephews, Dustin and Nicholas Jenkins, Lexington. MOORE, Houston Ray, 72, of Finksburg, Md., died Sunday, April 17, 1994 in Fort Howard, Maryland Veterans Hospital. Born in Rockbridge County, Va., he lived and worked in R oanoke for many years before retiring from Chesapeake Container Corp. Mr. Moore was a decorated veteran of World War II and served as an honor guard for President Truman during his visit to Belgium. Mr. Moore was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Louise Moore and two brothers, William and Lawrence Moore. Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Dolores and Asa Meadows, Finksburg, Md.; stepdaughter, Mary Sanders and husband, Leo, Roanoke; four grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; sisters, Joyce Arthur, Glasgow, Lois Chittum, Edna Massey, both of Buena Vista. For those preferring to make memorial contributions the family suggest the American Lung Association. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday at Oakey's North Chapel by the Rev. SMITH, Paulmer Bronson, (``Pete""), 84, of Lexington, died Sunday, April 17, 1994, at his home. Born in Rockbridge Co., October 23, 1909, he was the son of the late Emmett B. Smith and Bessie Muterspaw Smith. Mr. Smith was a member of the Little Brick Advent Christian Church, a retired construction worker and farmer, and was an active member of all branches of the Independent Order of the Odd Fellows Lodge. Surviving are his wife, Elma Nigel Smith, Lexington; one sister, Sally S. Flint, Lexington; niece and her husband, Sheila and Bob Garrison, Lexington; great-niece, Jennifer Garrison, Lexington; great-nephew, Robert Garrison, Lexington, and many friends. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, April 19, 1994, 3 p.m. from the Harrison Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Kenneth Carroll officiating, assisted by the Rev. Robert Richards. TATE, Esther Anne Banks, 50, of Wytheville, died Sunday, April 17, 1994, in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Huddle Memorial United Methodist Church, Past Regent of Women of the Moose and was preceded in death by her father, Harold A. Banks. She is survived by her husband, Howard J. Tate; two sons and daughter-in-law, Harold 'Jimmy"" and Beth Tate, Dwayne Edward Tate; one granddaughter, Christie Nicole Tate, all of Wytheville; her mother, Ruth H. Banks of Wytheville; a sister and brother-in-law, Aurelia and Charles W. Pickett of Upper Marlboro, Md.; several nieces and nephews. A memorial services will be held Tuesday, April 19, 1994 at 7 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Joe Carrico officiating. TAYLOR, Thelma V. Agee, 67, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, April 16, 1994. She was born April 11, 1927, the daughter of the late Harley and Lura Quesenberry of Willis. She was retired from General Electric Quality Control Department. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Ralph Agee and Walter Taylor. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Leonard C. and Kathryn (``Kathy"") Agee, Salem; a brother, Frank Quesenberry, Christiansburg; sisters, Alma Gay Walker, Radford, Carrie Smith, Rockwood, Tenn.; grandchildren, Michelle, Nicole, and Billy. Also surviving are nieces, nephews and special friends. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends who loved her. TONEY, Kermit Ceywood, 85, of Gretna, died Saturday morning, April 16, 1994, in Gretna Health Care Center. Born October 4, 1908, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Samuel Woodson Toney and Tiney Leftwich Toney. Mr. Toney was retired from America Viscose and the Virginia Alcohol Beverage Control. He was a member of the Anderson Lodge #258 A.F. & A.M., a former member of the Gretna Lions Club and a member of the First Baptist Church, Gretna. Survivors include two brothers, Berkley Toney of Chatham, Virgial Toney of Gretna; two sisters, Elma T. Lanier of Wilmington, N.C., and Doris T. Johnson of Chatham. WATSON, Mrs. Elizabeth Tuck, (``Lizzie""), 88, of Rocky Mount, formerly of Gretna, died Sunday, April 17, 1994, in Community Hospital, Roanoke. She had been a resident of Franklin Health Care in Rocky Mount. She was born April 5, 1906, in Pittsylvania County and was a daughter of Daniel Edward Tuck and Mary Ann Myers Tuck. She was a member of New Bethel Church of the Brethren. She was married to the late Russell C. Watson. Survivors include two brothers, Oscar Tuck and Dennis Tuck, both of Roanoke; two sisters, Peggy Pedigo and Ethel Hudson, both of Roanoke; a niece, Launa Turner of Rocky Mount, who helped care for her; many other nieces and nephews. WHITESELL, Pauline Gerlach, 91, of Roanoke, died Saturday, April 16, 1994, at the Roanoke United Methodist Home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert L. Whitesell. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Laura and Robert Norfleet, Roanoke, Carol and George Payne, Warrenton; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Whitesell, a native of Wooster, Ohio, graduated from Wooster College and Simmons School of Library Science in Boston, Mass. She was a member of Greene Memorial United Methodist Church and the PEO Sisterhood. A memorial service will be held at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel 12 noon Tuesday, April 19, 1994 with the Rev. Walter M. WORRELL, Joanna, 63, of Hillsville, passed away Sunday, April 1994 at Twin County Community Hospital. She was born February 21, 1931 in Carroll County the daughter of Marvin Green Webb and Evalyn Nester Webb. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Frieda Worrell, Hillsville; mother, Evalyn N. Webb, Hillsville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Gladys and Glenn Love, Hillsville, Elsie and Benton Cochran, Hillsville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Archie and Shirley Webb, Hillsville, John and Jewel Webb, Hillsville; three grandchildren.
